China has penalized a group of officials for failing to curb the delta variant of COVID-19 that has caused nearly 900 symptomatic infections across the country in less than a month. The rapid spread of the delta variant has triggered a resumption of the coronavirus outbreak in China, complicating Beijing’s strategy to contain the virus.
The eastern Chinese city of Yangzhou issued a warning to five officials for mishandling large-scale corona testing, saying these same officials allowed the coronavirus to spread. Because of this, the infection of the delta variant in Yangzhou city has overtaken the nearby city of Nanjing, where there was already an outbreak of the delta variant.
Actually, the outbreak of the delta variant of the coronavirus is increasing rapidly around the world. Cases of the delta variant are increasing rapidly in China as well. On Monday, 77 new patients of the Delta variant were found in China, after which 308 cases have been confirmed so far. With this, the city of Yangzhou has become the biggest hotspot of Corona in China. Six patients of the delta variant are critically ill and if one dies, it will be the first COVID-19 death in China in more than six months.
In some Chinese cities, tests have been started again to control locally transmitted infections. In China, infected people of the Delta variant of Corona have been found in more than a dozen cities since July 20. Officials have ordered local governments to monitor the infected and intensify containment efforts.
According to the China-backed Global Times, more than 30 officials across the country, from mayors and local health directors to heads of hospitals and airports, have been punished for negligence and local outbreaks.
According to the report, the latest case of corona in China started through a flight from Moscow. In mid-July, a passenger plane from Moscow landed at the international airport in the eastern Chinese city of Nanjing. Seven people aboard this plane were infected with the Delta variant of Corona. The coronavirus spread from these passengers to the people cleaning the airport and gradually started engulfing other cities as well.
Beijing has long blamed local authorities for violating the coronavirus outbreak in China. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the highly contagious delta variant of Kovid-19 has so far been reported in 135 countries and by next week the total global cases of coronavirus infection will cross 200 million.
