For the first time in American history, Muslims offered prayers at New York Times Square. During this thousands of Muslims gathered. Taraweeh’s prayer was recited. There has been a debate on social media due to Muslims offering Namaz on the road. Many people are supporting offering Namaz in Times Square, while most people are opposing it.
According to a report by Gulf Today, for the first time in the history of America, Muslims have offered Namaz at a famous place like Times Square. The organizers of this event said that Muslims living in America wanted Ramadan to be celebrated at this famous place in New York City and to give a message to the people that Islam is a religion of peace. According to the organizers – there are many misconceptions in the world about Islam.
The organizers said- We wanted to tell about our religion to all the people who did not know about it. Islam is the religion of peace. The holy month of Ramadan for Muslims began on Saturday. After the sighting of the moon, Ramadan was announced to begin.
Many people are also strongly criticizing this event. Hassan Sajwani, a UAE resident who is active on social media, said – People face problems by offering Namaz on the road. There are more than 270 mosques in New York alone, which are the best places for prayers. There is no need to block people’s way to demonstrate religion. This is not the way Islam teaches us.
Another user also wrote – I am a Muslim but do not support offering Namaz on Times Square. It may give the wrong message that Islam is an ‘aggressor’ or an infiltrator. Therefore, offer Namaz only in mosques.
