14-Year-Old Software Engineer Kairan Quazi Becomes SpaceX's Youngest Employee

Elon Musk’s SpaceX has made history by hiring its youngest employee ever. Kairan Quazi, a 14-year-old software engineer, has joined the esteemed spacecraft company after successfully navigating SpaceX’s rigorous and exciting interview process, known for its technical challenges. Quazi’s appointment showcases the company’s commitment to recognizing talent regardless of age and reinforces the belief in fostering young minds in the field of engineering and space exploration.

Expressing his enthusiasm, Quazi took to LinkedIn on Thursday to share his excitement about joining SpaceX. In his post, he revealed that he would be a valuable addition to the Starlink engineering team in what he referred to as the “coolest company on the planet.” Quazi appreciated SpaceX for being one of the “rare” companies that didn’t consider his age as an “arbitrary and outdated” criterion for determining his maturity and ability. With Starlink being SpaceX’s satellite internet service, Quazi’s LinkedIn bio reflects his aspirations for a career that tackles challenging issues and promotes radical innovation for the betterment of society.

Ahead of his upcoming graduation from Santa Clara University’s school of engineering, Kairan Quazi celebrated his achievement by sharing the news. This achievement marks another historic milestone for Quazi, as he will become the youngest graduate from the college. His exceptional journey began at the tender age of two when he astounded others by speaking in complete sentences, as reported by the LA Times. By the time he reached third grade, at the age of nine, Quazi recognized that the schoolwork failed to provide sufficient challenge for his advanced knowledge, highlighting his exceptional intellectual capabilities.

A few months later, Quazi secured an impressive internship as an AI research co-op fellow at Intel Labs. At the remarkable age of 11, he enrolled in the computer science and engineering course, further showcasing his extraordinary aptitude. In pursuit of his passion, Quazi is reportedly planning to relocate with his mother from Pleasanton, California to Redmond, Washington to commence his work at SpaceX. In 2022, he also contributed his talents as a machine learning intern at the cyber intelligence firm Blackbird.AI, where he played a key role in designing an “anomaly detection statistical learning pipeline” aimed at identifying social media content manipulation. This information was shared on Quazi’s LinkedIn profile, highlighting his noteworthy accomplishments in the field.

During his leisure time, Quazi finds enjoyment in playing games like the Assassin’s Creed series. He also indulges in reading science fiction stories authored by Philip K. Dick and the works of journalist Michael Lewis, known for his expertise in financial crises. These activities reflect Quazi’s diverse interests and provide him with a well-rounded break from his remarkable achievements in the field of engineering.
