In a recent announcement, social media giant Twitter revealed that users will soon be required to undergo the verification process in order to utilize TweetDeck. The company specified that this change will be implemented within a span of 30 days.
Despite the ongoing issues faced by TweetDeck users, such as notification failures and columns not loading, Twitter made the aforementioned announcement. These problems arose shortly after Elon Musk, the CEO of Twitter, implemented restrictions on the number of tweets users can read in a day. Initially, verified users were limited to 6,000 posts per day, while unverified users were limited to 600 daily posts. However, within hours, Musk revised these limits to 10,000 tweets for verified users and 1,000 tweets for unverified users.
According to news agency Reuters, Twitter made the latest announcement through a tweet, unveiling an enhanced version of TweetDeck that offers new features. However, it remains unclear whether the social media platform intends to charge users for both the new and old versions of TweetDeck. In their tweet, the company stated, “We have just launched a new, improved version of TweetDeck. All users can continue to access their saved searches & workflows via https://tweetdeck.twitter.com by selecting ‘Try the new TweetDeck’ in the bottom left menu.”
According to the tweet, Twitter assured users that all their saved searches, lists, and columns will seamlessly transition to the new version of TweetDeck. When first launching the application, users will be prompted to import their columns. The enhanced TweetDeck now includes comprehensive composer functionality, support for Spaces, video docking, polls, and other features. However, the Teams functionality in TweetDeck is temporarily unavailable but will be reinstated in the upcoming weeks. Additionally, the tweet specified that users will be required to undergo the verification process within 30 days to maintain access to TweetDeck.
The potential introduction of charges for TweetDeck, a popular tool utilized by businesses and news organizations to conveniently monitor content, has the potential to provide a revenue boost for Twitter. This move comes as the social media platform has faced challenges in retaining advertising revenue during Elon Musk’s ownership.
Musk’s announcement regarding the limitations on tweet-reading triggered a strong backlash from Twitter users. Advertising experts expressed concerns that this decision would undermine the authority of the newly appointed CEO, Linda Yaccarino, who assumed the role just last month.
In India, individuals are required to pay ₹650 per month to verify their accounts, while organizations are charged a minimum of ₹82,300 per month (excluding taxes).
