According to an announcement made by Twitter on Tuesday, the recent implementation of usage limits is aimed at identifying and eradicating bots and other malicious users. The company further clarified that the impact of these limits is minimal, affecting only a small percentage of users at present.

In a blog post, Twitter emphasized the need to guarantee the authenticity of its user base, stating, “To combat spam and bots effectively, we must implement stringent measures. Providing advance notice of these actions would have given malicious actors an opportunity to modify their behavior and avoid detection.”

The company clarified that these actions aim to prevent accounts from unauthorized data scraping of users’ public information for the purpose of constructing artificial intelligence models, as well as to curb any attempts at manipulating the platform’s usage.

On Saturday, Elon Musk, the owner of Twitter, revealed the introduction of limits, restricting users to a specific number of daily post readings. These limits were attributed to concerns over “extreme levels of data scraping” and “system manipulation” occurring on the platform.

Twitter introduced these restrictions as temporary measures, with different tiers based on a user’s verification status on the platform. This update was implemented in response to a significant number of users encountering error messages while attempting to access the platform.

In a statement on Tuesday, Twitter mentioned that the current restrictions have only impacted a small portion of platform users, and the company will provide further updates once the implementation is complete. Twitter also reassured that the impact on advertising has been minimal for its customers.
